This policy explains what personal information AfriTrove collects, why we use it, who we may share it with and the choices available to you.

Effective 1 September 2026 AfriTrove Market

This policy applies when you visit afritrove.com, create an account, place an order, contact support or otherwise interact with AfriTrove’s online grocery and everyday-essentials service.

01About this policy

AfriTrove is the trading name used by AfriTrove Market. AfriTrove Market is responsible for deciding how and why personal information covered by this policy is processed. In this policy, “AfriTrove”, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to AfriTrove Market.

We process personal information in accordance with applicable Nigerian data-protection law, including the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. This policy should be read together with our Terms & Conditions.

02Personal information we collect

The information we collect depends on how you interact with AfriTrove. It may include:

  • Identity and contact details: name, email address, telephone number, billing address and delivery address.
  • Account details: username, encrypted password, saved addresses, preferences and account activity.
  • Order information: products purchased, cart contents, order value, order status, delivery instructions, returns, refunds and support history.
  • Payment information: payment status, transaction reference and limited payment details supplied by the payment provider. We do not store your full card number or security code.
  • Communications: messages, enquiries, feedback, order number and any photographs or documents you choose to send to support.
  • Technical and usage information: IP address, browser, device, operating system, approximate location, pages viewed, clicks, session identifiers, cookies and diagnostic information.
  • Marketing preferences: your choice to receive or stop receiving promotional communications.

03How we collect information

We collect information:

  • directly from you when you register, order, complete checkout, update your account or contact us;
  • automatically through the website, cookies, logs and similar technologies;
  • from payment providers when they confirm or update a transaction;
  • from delivery or service partners where needed to fulfil or support an order; and
  • from fraud-prevention, security or analytics services used to protect and improve the website.

04How we use personal information

We may use personal information to:

  • create and manage your account;
  • process payments, orders, deliveries, cancellations, returns and refunds;
  • confirm delivery availability and charges for selected Abuja areas;
  • send order confirmations, service notices and support responses;
  • verify identity, prevent fraud, secure accounts and investigate misuse;
  • operate, troubleshoot, analyse and improve the website and customer experience;
  • keep records, enforce our terms and comply with legal, tax and regulatory obligations; and
  • send marketing where you have consented or where otherwise permitted, with a way to opt out.

06Who we share information with

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may share only what is reasonably necessary with:

  • Payment providers, including Paystack where it is offered at checkout, to authorise and process transactions;
  • delivery and logistics partners to fulfil orders in selected Abuja areas;
  • hosting, website, email, security and IT providers that help operate AfriTrove;
  • analytics, advertising and communication providers where those tools are enabled and permitted;
  • professional advisers, insurers and business-service providers under appropriate confidentiality duties;
  • law-enforcement, regulators, courts or other authorities where disclosure is legally required or necessary to protect rights and safety; and
  • a successor or transaction party if all or part of the business is reorganised, financed, sold or transferred, subject to appropriate safeguards.

Service providers may process information only for agreed purposes and under applicable confidentiality, security and data-protection requirements.

07Payment information

Payments are handled by the payment option shown at checkout. Where Paystack or another payment provider processes your payment, its own privacy terms also apply. Card or banking credentials are submitted to the payment provider and are not stored in full on AfriTrove’s servers. We may receive a transaction reference, payment status, amount and limited information needed for records, refunds, fraud prevention and support.

08Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small files or identifiers used by websites and connected services. AfriTrove may use:

  • essential cookies for login, security, checkout, cart contents and website operation;
  • preference cookies to remember settings and improve convenience;
  • analytics cookies to understand website use and performance; and
  • advertising or measurement cookies where enabled, to measure campaigns and show more relevant communications.

You can manage cookies through your browser and any cookie controls displayed on the website. Blocking essential cookies may prevent login, cart or checkout features from working correctly.

09Processing outside Nigeria

Some hosting, payment, analytics, communication or technology providers may process information outside Nigeria. Where an international transfer occurs, we take reasonable steps to use a lawful transfer mechanism and appropriate contractual, organisational or technical safeguards required by applicable law.

10How long we keep information

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose collected, including order fulfilment, account service, support, fraud prevention, dispute resolution and legal, tax or accounting requirements. Retention periods vary by record type. When information is no longer required, we delete, anonymise or securely restrict it, subject to technical and legal limitations.

11How we protect information

We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect personal information, including encrypted website connections, access controls, secure authentication, software updates, backups and restricted access where appropriate. No internet service can promise absolute security. You should use a strong, unique password and tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised account access.

12Your privacy rights

Subject to applicable law and any lawful exception, you may have the right to:

  • ask whether we process your personal information and request access to it;
  • ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
  • request deletion, restriction or objection in circumstances where the law allows;
  • receive certain information in a usable format or ask that it be transferred where applicable;
  • withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing that was lawful before withdrawal;
  • object to direct marketing and stop promotional messages; and
  • complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission or seek another remedy available by law.

13Children’s privacy

AfriTrove is not designed for children to use independently. A person who does not have legal capacity to transact should use the service only with the involvement and authorisation of a parent or legal guardian. If you believe a child provided personal information without proper authorisation, contact us so we can review and take appropriate action.

14Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our services, technology or legal obligations change. We will post the updated policy on this page and revise the effective date. Where a material change requires additional notice or consent, we will take the steps required by applicable law.
